Top 11 °C-ute A-Sides – A Few Extra Notes

May 22, 2017

This basically turned into another round of No Thinking! because I was ready to add half of the singles that I didn’t mention to the Honorable Mentions category. XD

Tokaikko Junjou – This has the honor of being the song that has the strongest association with something else (Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Tacos at Midnight Doritos) which makes it super-memorable for me. Plus it’s just great. =D
LALALA Shiawase no Uta – I’m 98.7% sure this was my first °C-ute song. I actually remember bringing my laptop into the living room late at night (not long after the song came out) and playing it for my mom because I had liked it so much; it makes me so happy! I think one of the reasons it didn’t make it on the Top 11 list is because the “la la la”s at the end went on for so long… (^_^”)
The Power – I think I’ve seen a few other people mention the fact that this sounded more like a song Berryz Koubou would sing. Maybe that’s why I found it so catchy coming from °C-ute. XD
I miss you – LAYERED VOCALS~!!! ♥♥♥♥♥
Ai wa Marude Seidenki – Adorable video and fun chorus~! =)
Namida no Iro – Super-catchy and I love the Latin sound! ^_^

As little as I listened to °C-ute compared to the other groups, making this video made me realize just how much I love all of their singles. =D … I’m really going to miss them. orz After they’re gone, Momo will be the only one left from the groups that were around when I first started listening… and she’s leaving, too! TT__TT AYACHO, DON’T YOU LEAVE ME ANY TIME SOON! orz

Top 10 Berryz Koubou A-Sides – A Few Extra Notes

October 18, 2016

This top ten list was a little easier than the one I made for my favorite Morning Musume。  A-sides. I mentioned two of these in the video, but here are more Berryz Koubou A-sides that I really, really love.

Special Generation (Like I said, this is THE Berryz song)
Watashi no Mirai no Danna-sama (I love the echoed lines)
Tomodachi wa Tomodachi Nanda! (The fast lyrics are awesome in this one, too!)
Maji Bomber!! (Sooo muuuch fuuuuunnnnn~!!)
Towa no Uta (URGH, so many feelings and memories with this song! orz T_T =D)

If given the chance, I’d probably list ten to fifteen more songs… XD Like I said, though, this one was a bit easier for me. I think I’m going to wait a while for the next No Thinking! vlog because I’d like to do °C-ute A-sides. They have a new single coming out in a of couple weeks, and I think they’ll probably have one more after that, so we’ll see. … If I don’t feel like waiting, I might move on to coupling tracks or album tracks. Anyway… that’s all for this one~! =)

Top 10 Morning Musume。 A-Sides – A Few Extra Notes

August 15, 2016

Top five/ten/whatever lists are nearly impossible for me, because I can find something good about almost every H!P song, so I had to make my top ten list of Morning Musume。‘s A-sides without giving myself a chance to really think about my choices. You can see that list in the above video. Once I finished this and waited for a while (the video was filmed two weeks ago, and the list was initially written two weeks before that), I let myself think about it a little bit. Here are five more A-sides that I realized I really love.

Memory Seishun no Hikari (Great harmonies and pretty in a haunting sort of way)
Help me! (Super-high nostalgia factor and really catchy)
Ima Sugu Tobikomu Yuuki (Absolutely love the lyrics and the strings)
Tsumetai Kaze to Kataomoi (Really loving singing along with this lately)

You might notice that, in both my top ten list and the additional five, I have quite a few more recent songs (ones released in the past five years or so). I think it’s because I haven’t had as much time to listen to them waaaaay too many times like I have with older songs. XD Another problem I noticed that I have is that, whenever I do a dance cover for a song, I tend to not listen to that song for quite a while after I finish the dance. That’s probably because I have to listen to the song a TON while I’m learning the dance, so I get a bit tired of it. (^_^”) (This is the case with songs like “Password is 0” and “The Peace!,” both of which I’ve danced to in the last year; “Utakata Saturday Night!” is still okay for now. XD) Who knows? In another year, I might have a completely different list! XD (^_^”) orz

Berryz Koubou Music Video Rankings – Round 4

October 9, 2015

Guess who finally decided to work on ranking Berryz Koubou’s PVs? Correct! Me. XD orz (And I actually had this post written out almost a month ago, but I still didn’t post it. (^__^”)) Let’s see, where did I leave off… ah, yes! This is where it really starts getting difficult, because all singles from here on came out after I became a fan, so they all have fond memories associated with them. Well, I’ll see if I can make up my mind. Here’s Round 4!

Dschinghis Khan

Lots of spazzy cuts and a huge group of tiny kids to start it out! It’s promising! XD Is it just me, or did I see some of the little kids doing one of those moves that a lot of wota do (jumping in a circle while clapping hands)…? XD I love the solo shots with the girls and their various props (guitar, megaphone, tambourine, pom poms, etc.). Cap, you rock the keytar! XDD Chinami totally won for the solo shots, though; she was so goofy in this, and I loved it! =D

Yuke Yuke Monkey Dance

I remember all of the arguing when this one came out; a lot of people thought it was insulting to the members while others thought it was fun and exactly the kind of craziness that H!P needed to revisit from time to time. I was part of the latter group (not that I had a presence on the Internet at the time to make my opinion knows). Anyway, on to the video! This exhibited effective use of cheesy clip-art swipes with the banana, so that’s appreciated. XD The reveal of the monkey costumes was absolutely perfect. Chinami and Maasa were totally owning those costumes! Some of the faces they made… XD I think the Monkey Vers. of this music video is one of the most enjoyable group shots of a PV I’ve seen.

Look! Foreigners! (Somehow, that sounds kind of bad. (^__^”)) When the video first started, I was worried that they would be slightly unpleasant characters in this video (strict or cold or what have you), and, unfortunately, for the most part, they did live up to that expectation, at least when compared with the fun and fancy-free office Berryz. (^__^”) Other than that, thank goodness for an actual set! Also, I call those Berryz’ Starburst outfits, because the colors reminded me of the candy. XD I think I remember seeing that this song was the lowest-ranked single on that final fan song ranking they did for Berryz, which is kind of too bad. =/ I like it~. This video actually had something that I always want to see in PVs: a story. Not much of one, granted (Berryz members work in an office), but it’s there.

Dakishimete Dakishimete

2009! Berryz really started to shine this year! I do believe this song/dance might be one of the most popular Berryz singles with Westerners…? It is, at least, the most popular Berryz song on (the US) iTunes. I have reeeeally fond memories of this song. It came out just a couple of months before I graduated from high school and got my two-year degree. Anyway… amazing song, amazing dance, great costumes (… for the most part…). They look really cheesy, but I love the multiplied Berryz with a psychedelic background shots! What else is there… a couple of group “look back at the camera” shots; the DJ shots, of course; a few slowed down parts… I also liked the use of lights to change coloring of the speakers for the backgrounds of their close-up shots.

Final ranking for these four singles…

4. Dschinghis Khan
3. Yuke Yuke Monkey Dance
2. Dakishimete Dakishimete

I know; I was surprised, too. As much as I wanted sentimentality to rule by making “Dakishimete Dakishimete” number one, it still didn’t have the discernible story that “MADAYADE” had. =/ Well, that’s all for this one! Who knows when I’ll get the next one up. orz Until then~!

Berryz Koubou Music Video Rankings – Round 3

February 28, 2015

Waracchaou yo BOYFRIEND

Cheesy computer effects~~~!!!! XD In this case, I totally love them! The backgrounds and especially the girls floating around with balloons (and Chinami flying XD) add to the cuteness of this video rather than detract. The solo shots of the members “interacting” with the viewers (the popcorn/ice cream/etc. shots) are absolutely adorable (I love Maasa’s “Take the darn popcorn!” look XD). The whole diner/cafe/theater popcorn/boardwalk fun feeling the video gives off perfectly matches the 50s feeling of the song (and the dance fits right in with the theme, too!) making this one of my favorite Berryz videos~. =D

Munasawagi Scarlet

This was my first Berryz song, but I can’t let the amazingness of the music influence my ranking of the video. … Those outfits… ugh. The trite “putting on makeup” shots… sigh. That dance background that totally clashes with the already-clashing outfits… bah. You know what could have easily fixed their clothes? Make the tops white instead of pink. An easy, quick fix. *shakes head* Anyway, you can definitely see that Risako will grow up to be gorgeous in this video. Also, that dance break is incredible! I also love the shots of all seven of them singing into the “mirror” (it looked like Miya and Momo were going to start laughing for a second there XD).

This is an absolute beautiful video! It has that slightly desaturated look that I love, the settings are exquisite, and the lighting is perfect~. Some of their outfits are ridiculous, but I almost don’t notice because everything works together so well in this video! The flowers, and the architecture, and ARGH, it’s all just so pretty! I can even overlook the mostly-stupid dance! XD (On a side note, how can Momo sit like that?! I can feel my knees snapping just thinking about it!)

Kokuhaku no Funsui Hiroba

This was another lovely video~. I really wish H!P would have more outdoor settings in their current music videos. This was an interesting video, because the only time you ever see the dance shot is on the screen in the back of the karaoke room that Momo, Captain, and Maasa are in. I love the little effect of the bird carrying Risako’s mail/text.

Tsukiatteru no ni Kataomoi

Ah~, another favorite song~… but as far as the video is concerned… Okay, so, even though this one isn’t outside like the last two, the set is still splendid! I really love the screens, trees, and starry background with the huge crescent moon hanging in the sky~. I also like the flowiness of their outfits, and I think they fit with the background well to make a very pleasant video. Berryz was all about prettiness that year, huh? =D Oh, hi, Risako who totally doesn’t look thirteen. O__O I could have done without the flashing lights during the chorus, but I love the falling glitter effect and all the drapey fabric~. Floating/flying Berryz at the end kind of made me snort, but I suppose it was a rather pretty shot if you ignore the cheesiness. XD

This ranking was a bit difficult, because there were some really good videos in this set~. But here’s what I ended up ranking singles 11 through 15:

5. Munasawagi Scarlet
4. Kokuhaku no Funsui Hiroba
3. Tsukiatteru no ni Kataomoi
1. Waracchaou yo BOYFRIEND

It’s funny that I have the one with the brightest, craziest color palette and all the computer effects as number one after I said how much I like the subdued, natural looks of the others. XD It’s so much fun, I couldn’t not rank it in first place! Next ranking… hopefully soon!

Berryz Koubou Music Video Rankings – Round 2

February 28, 2015

Special Generation

As much as I love this song, the music video didn’t have much going for it. Lots of inset videos, somewhat cheesy light/sparkle overlays, and that swirl-in border effect. The glowing blue-and-white background was kind of neat, though. There wasn’t any story in this video either (just dance shot, solo dancing, close ups, and that small part where they all posed), so it loses some points for that, too. =/

Nanchuu Koi wo Yatteruu YOU KNOW?

On the subject of videos with stories, this one… sort of has one. It’s super bare-bones if I’m not imagining it in the first place. I think it takes the first couple of lines from each verse and makes that the story (they mention mailing/texting and talking on the phone). The floating screen close-ups in front of the “other shots” (them looking at their cell phones) are pretty cool. I actually like the computer-y effects with the random flashing boxes and lines throughout the video. The first half of the dance break drives me slightly crazy with the basketball pantomiming (and the ending moves kind of bug me, too), but, oddly enough, the second half during which they’re using obvious basketball movements to dance doesn’t bother me at all. Other than that, I think the outfits fit the song, the dance is actually pretty interesting, and I love the song itself, so… yeah.

21ji Made no Cinderella

Hooray for an actual set! I always seem to love diner sets. Their outfits are so all-over-the-place and yet… I love them? XD This has all of the usual shots (dance, close up, pose), but it also has some fun shots of the girls drinking juice, passing around gifts, posing cutely, and… hold on, what’s up with that mannequin by the door?! Maybe it just looks topless because I’m watching a lower quality video… *puts in Berryz MV Blu-ray collection* … Nope. … Nope, that is definitely a topless mannequin. Scandalous. XD Other than that, this is a fun video~. XD

Gag 100kaibun Aishite Kudasai

So. Much. FUN! The goofy dance, the outfits that totally don’t go with the bandanna-esque background for the dance shot… not to mention there’s not one brooding, stare-at-the-camera pose to be seen! Instead, we get the girls looking giddy with their love letters, contemplating their painting subjects, and then freaking out when the still life they’re trying to paint flies everywhere (and you can totally see the strings holding the stuff in the air). XD This is one of the earliest Berryz songs I remember listening to, and I still love it (plus, it’s such a Momo-fest, and I am quite a big fan of Momoko). =D

Jiriri Kiteru

Aaand back to serious Berryz (though I totally love them for the fact that they can be serious, or cute, or silly and still make anything work for them). I really like the desaturated look of this music video. As cheesy as the scenes are, the crying, running, and grabbing onto the fence are a pretty accurate representation of the sort of desperate feel of this song. I’m quite fond of this dance, too.

These five were fairly easy to rank, though it took me a moment to figure out whether or not I wanted to switch 3 and 4 (the dance was a big factor here: it hurt “Nanchuu” and helped “Jiriri”). So my final ranking for their 6th through 10th singles are as follows:

5. Special Generation
4. Nanchuu Koi wo Yatteruu YOU KNOW?
3. Jiriri Kiteru
2. 21ji Made no Cinderella
1. Gag 100kaibun Aishite Kudasai

The adorable, fun videos always seem to be favorites of mine~. The next five should be coming soon (much sooner than these ones were (^__^”)>)!

Berryz Koubou Music Video Rankings – Round 1

January 31, 2015

In this post, I’ll rank the music videos for Berryz Koubou’s first five music videos. Here we go!

Anata Nashi de wa Ikite Yukenai

Ahh~~ look at how tiny they weeerrreee! I don’t actually mind their silver-jacketed outfits (though I can’t help but giggle at the attempts to look hip-hop-ish with the hats and bandannas and cool poses XD), but their outfits for the dance shot… orz Although, I must say, just for nostalgia’s sake, they have grown on me a bit~. I still like the fact that this video (along with many of their other older ones) has the “special” shots (that is, shots that aren’t close-ups or dancing). Sure, they’re just running/riding around on scooters, but at least they’re doing SOMETHING, which is more than can be said for quite a few of their videos from the last few years (and that goes for the other H!P groups, too).

Fighting Pose wa Date ja nai!

The dance was pretty weak for this one, but the music video was actually really enjoyable! You are “CELEB” or NOT?? XD The girls are so adorable in this one, trying on clothes and makeup and getting irritated when they are NOT CLEAR!! as celebs. XDD And then, as soon as they’re cleared, they get to head into the exclusive pool room. XD And I love, love, LOVE that they do the fighting poses in their “celeb” clothes in the pool near the end. (Is it just me, or did Yurina get a CLEAR!!! twice, while Chinami didn’t get any? XD)

Piriri to Yukou!

I love the outdoor setting, and the bus is fun, too, as it vaguely reminds me of Morning Musume’s “Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari” video. Shoving each other out of the way and getting all up in the camera is always amusing. XD I actually rather like both of their outfits for this single. Also, I believe they ran around in a circle in all of their first three videos (well, to be specific in “Anata Nashi” they skipped, “Fighting Pose” they ran, and this one they joined hands and ran, right?). The marching and sparkler shots were cute, too. It looked like Momo almost fell over right at then end there. XD

Happiness ~Koufuku Kangei!~

SKY TRAIN! XD I didn’t realize just how elaborate their earlier videos were in comparison with their newer stuff. I always love the spinning camera shots, so the table scenes in this made me happy. Their dancing is still a little all-over-the-place, but that kind of adds to the childish charm of their earliest videos, don’t you think? I can’t help but deduct a couple of points for the ridiculous ending pose, though. =/

Koi no Jubaku

This is the first time I noticed the sign that said “Don’t run in the hallway!” as Chinami is running up the steps in the beginning. XD This video actually has some really nice shots, and I like that they had a bit of a story for this video. At first, I was going to complain that they didn’t have enough of a story, but, after reading the translation, the scenes with all of them sitting around the desks and giving each other sideways glances has a lot more gravity. I’ve always liked the outfits they had for the dance in this one… all the bright colors~.

I’ve tried very hard to not consider the songs themselves (lyrics, yes, as they can help or hinder the video itself; music, no, because that would make it harder on me) when ranking these music videos, so my final ranking for their first five PVs is as follows:

5. Anata Nashi de wa Ikite Yukenai
4. Happiness ~Koufuku Kangei!~
3. Koi no Jubaku
2. Piriri to Yukou
1. Fighting Pose wa Date ja nai!

Though it was their lowest-selling single, the cuteness of the music video for “Fighting Pose wa Date ja nai!” really won me over. That’s all for this one! The next five will be coming soon~!

Guardians 4 Rankings Results

December 18, 2010

And now the final results~! (Which aren’t really a surprise…)

4. Going On! (12 points) – Well, I can’t say I didn’t expect this one to be last. (^_^”)> It is very much a… “Guardians 4-like” release, but something about it just didn’t have the same charm as the others. … I still love the single cover, though!

3. Omakase♪Guardian (16 points) – The sentimental value of the song and the amazing coupling track helped make up for the unimpressive PV. Ah, I remember when this group was announced… “Oh look, another Shugo Chara! group. (-_-”)” But, with the release of this song, I actually hoped they would do more. =)

2. School Days (20 points) – This almost surprised me, considering the fact that I hardly listened to this song at all until a few months ago. This was a very solid single, especially for what I consider the main parts (A-side, coupling track, and PV). ^__^

1. PARTY TIME (22 points) – Yeah, I knew this one would get first. XD This is definitely my favorite Guardians 4 song of all. ❤ If it wasn’t for the coupling track, it would have gotten first or second in all of the rankings.

And that’s all! Sorry for the long wait between posts to anyone who has been waiting for these (or any post at all, really). m(_ _)m

Guardians 4 Ranking – Part 7: Sentimental Value

December 18, 2010

The final ranking~!

4. Going On!
– To be fair, this came out when my computer was still dead, but, to be honest, I still don’t think I would have paid as much attention to this one anyway. =/ This is a great song with a cute PV, but it just doesn’t hold as sentimental value as the others for me.

3. School Days
– I listened to this song in passing, and I watched the PV a couple of times (and I’ve always loved it), but I just didn’t revisit it much. I didn’t realize how much I really liked the song until I started learning the dance. =)

– As I said before, I was completely hooked from the first preview I heard; it seemed like forever before the PV came out, but, when it did I watched it… oh, a few times. XD The song was constantly stuck in my head.

1. Omakase♪Guardian
– This song came out around the time I graduated, so that’s one of the things I associate with it. I also listened to it a lot when I played through Final Fantasy VII for the first time, so it reminds me of that, too. =D There are just some great memories that go with this song. ^_^

The results after the seventh ranking:

4. Going On! (12 points)
3. Omakase♪Guardian (16 points)
2. School Days (20 points)
1. PARTY TIME (22 points)

It has been determined! Only one Guardians 4 ranking post left…

~ Surimu-chan

Guardians 4 Ranking – Part 6: Dances

December 17, 2010

And now to rank the dances~…

4. Omakase♪Guardian
– As with all of the Guardians 4 dances, it’s cute. It seems a bit bland, though, compared to the other ones, though I do like the dance break. =)

3. Going On!
– This is another good dance; it’s more interesting than the one for “Omakase♪Guardian,” but it still can’t compete with the other two. I really like the dance that goes with the chorus. =D I like dancing along with this, especially with the part where Nakki and Risako turn around and move back and forth while Mittsi and Yurina stay facing forward.

2. School Days
– It pains me to put this in second, because I love it so much. T_T The footwork during the chorus is awesome~. ❤ The dance fits in very well with the school theme. I also love when they’re all standing in a line and doing moves one by one.

– It’s so much fun~~! This was one of those dances that I wanted to do since I first saw it. My favorite moves are the ones they do during Yurina’s solo lines. The arm spinning during the “pa pa ya pa pa pa pia” lines is great… though, now that I think about it, it reminds me of the dance for “SEXY BOY ~Soyokaze ni Yorisotte~.”

The results after the sixth ranking:

4. Going On! (11 points)
3. Omakase♪Guardian (12 points)
2. School Days (18 points)
1. PARTY TIME (19 points)

I don’t know if the fact that I actually learned all of these dances helps or hurts the rankings for any of these… (^_^”)
