Favorite H!P Songs of 2017 – A Few Extra Notes

December 24, 2017

Quite a bit has changed in Hello! Project this year!

Graduations/Departures This Year: °C-ute (Yajima Maimi, Nakajima Saki, Suzuki Airi, Okai Chisato, Hagiwara Mai), Tsugunaga Momoko, Fujii Rio, Ogawa Rena, Taguchi Natsumi, Kudou Haruka

Wow, when you write them all down, it’s really crazy to see how many people left this year. O_O

Not to sound mean but, Kobushi Factory‘s releases were so few and far between that I often forgot about them, so the departures of Rio, Rena, and Tagucchi didn’t affect me as much. orz

The sadness I would have felt from °C-ute’s graduation was lessened by the fact that I still see them together all the time in Instagram pictures. XD

Momo’s graduation sucked. Not that the show was bad, but I just didn’t want to see her go. orz What a delightful send-off with that concert, though (and the album)~!!! ♥

As I said in the post just before this one, Duu’s graduation was sort of a gradual build for me. Like, “Oh wow, she’s graduating,” to “… She’ll be graduating soon…,” to “DON’T LEAVE, DUU!” I will miss her (especially in variety shows).

I really hope Aiai comes back, but I wonder if it would be better for her to not… at least give her a proper graduation, even if she’s not coming back! TT_TT

The other big thing was the member transfer early this summer. Funakki and Ayano are blending in with ANGERME so well! Yanamin and Ruru are killing it with Juice=Juice (though I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss Yanamin’s old hairstyle XD). Chii-chan is wonderful in Morning Musume, but I can’t help but feel that she’s still a bit guarded. She seems much more at ease with Country Girls (which is understandable). And Ichioka Reina‘s new group… has anything more even been said about that?!

There’s also the matter of more digital releases and short MVs on the groups’ YouTube channels… I’m happy about the first, not so much the second. (-_-“)

I know a lot of fans decided to “graduate” with °C-ute or Momo, but I’m going to stick around. I’m looking forward to their future releases~! =D

Kudo Haruka Graduates

December 11, 2017

This always seems to happen to me. A member whom I like but who isn’t one of my absolute favorites announces her graduation, and I’m like, “Aww, that’s too bad.” Then the date gets closer and I find all of these fun interviews and video clips and I listen for her solo lines in songs… and then her graduation is less than a week away, and I start saying, “She’s graduating in just (this many) days.” Then just a day or two before her graduation I get into that “No. Nope. No no no no no, please stay a little longer!” phase… And then the day comes, and I start to see pictures and clips of the graduation roll in… And then I realize that I liked that member a lot more than I originally thought.

Duu

When she first joined (and I think that’s the first thing that makes this hard for me: I followed the 10th gen. auditions, so I’ve been a fan for her entire Morning Musume journey), I thought she was cute and had an impressive voice for such a little girl. Over the years, I sometimes felt that her “little brother” (and later “ikemen”) character was a bit forced, but Duu just being Duu was always awesome. She always seemed so nice to the other members (and could even deal with a Maa-chan who felt like being difficult XD).

Her graduation single was amazing, her graduation song in particular. The regular version of the “Wakaindashi!” music video made me misty-eyed, and the complete version (which I bought as soon as it was available) made me cry. … Yep, I just watched it again, and it still makes me cry. XD orz

I’ve watched a handful of clips from her graduation concert. It was nice that she got to do “Mr. Moonlight ~Ai no Big Band~” again, which fits the ikemen character, but I was pleasantly surprised by her graduation song, “Moshimo…” (the coupling track for “Busu ni Naranai Tetsugaku”). It’s pretty cutesy but somehow very much Duu.

I also watched the members’ messages to Haruka (I didn’t start calling her “Duu” until recently, actually XD). Those are always kind of painful, or… bittersweet? I guess the word is… Even though Maa-chan’s message was the only one I’ve seen translated so far, listening to and watching Chii-chan, Yokoyan, Akane (knowing how much she loves Duu), MariaSakura starting with a joke and breaking down halfway through… Maa-chan’s disjointed rambling… Daishi‘s emotional message… everyone really seems to love Duu.

Ahh~… graduations turn me into such a mess. TT_TT

Congratulations, Duu~!

Duu! Congratulations on your graduation! I’ll be sure to watch the dramas you star in~! ♥♥♥♥♥

Great H!P-Related Memories – A Few Extra Notes

September 9, 2017

It has been such a blast to follow H!P for the past ten years~. There have been some low points (tons of complaints from other fans about anything and everything brings me down a bit; also lulls in releases kind of pulls my interest away at times), but there have been some really exciting times, too. Besides the moments I mentioned in the video, a few more come to mind:

– Morning Musume got their first #1 on the charts in a while for “Shouganai Yume Oibito;” it was the first H!P number 1 on Oricon since I started listening
– When I heard that Morning Musume was going to be at Anime Expo; even though I wasn’t able to go, just hearing that they were coming to the USA (somewhere other than Hawaii) made me happy
– Watching Ayaka’s Surprise English Lessons; early on in the fandom, I binge-watched all of the episodes and even showed them to my mom
– Watching H!P clips in general; the Idiot Girl/Crap Girl Tests and all of the H!P haunted house segments are really memorable (Ai-chan, Junjun, Reina / Kamei, Gaki-san / Miyabi, Maasa, Captain)
– Utaban clips~~~~!
– Reading H!P blogs and seeing what others thought about songs/music videos/other clips; also seeing others’ rankings for members and other things

So many memories~! ♥

There have been a couple of times where I’ve thought about slowly getting away from the fandom (2015 when they stopped having dance shots, and more recently after °C-ute and Momo graduated), but something always pulls me back in (Tsubaki Factory seems rather interesting, and I’m SO HAPPY that Manakan is back~!!!). I’m also excited about the digital releases; finally, regular content again! ^__^ I do have just one quick gripe: one of the performances by the H!P Dance Club this year used a song with some less-than-appropriate English language. I really hope they don’t trend in this direction. =( It spoiled their amazing dance performance for me. orz

Anyway, I can’t wait to see what H!P will do next! =D

Favorite Albums from H!P Groups – A Few Extra Notes

July 22, 2017

Seriously. I said it in the video, and I’ll say it again.

I REALLY wish they would get back to making albums regularly.

H!P album tracks are great. 1) You often get a variety of musical styles; look at Morning Musume’s sixth album: something cute with “Lemon Iro to Milk Tea,” something cool with “Dokusenyoku,” something relaxing with “Haru no Uta,” something unique with “Sukiyaki,” etc. 2) It adds an element of surprise because you can imagine what they’ll do for the costume and dance. Look at the different dances and costumes for “Moonlight night ~Tsukiyo no Ban da yo~.” I know that A-side costumes and even dances can be changed for concerts, but with album tracks (and coupling tracks) you can hear the song and imagine the presentation yourself first without having any previous versions to compare it to. … I’m not sure if this is making sense, but I understand what I’m trying to say. XD orz

H!P’s Latest Changes – Transfers and Debuts

June 27, 2017

Lots of big things will be happening with Hello! Project very soon~! I made sure to get up early to watch the special episode of Hello! Station with all of the announcements.

Morito Chisaki to Morning Musume ’17
– My surprise for this was not so much who went to MM but the fact that anyone was added to MM at all. I thought they might try to build up the fanbases of the other groups a bit more by adding established members. I don’t have any problem with Chii-chan being added, and, of the available members, I can see why they added her. I just worry about the group dynamic; this seems to be one of those weird Mikitty situations where Chisaki debuted before the 13th generation of MM, but it was in another group, so 13th gen. is technically her senpai in Morning Musume even though she technically has seniority… I don’t know how this whole thing will work, but I just want everyone to get along well. (^_^”) I think Chii-chan will do just fine, though~.

Yanagawa Nanami and Danbara Ruru to Juice=Juice
– Again, my surprise was for the fact that members were added to Juice=Juice. That being said, I’m excited for Juice=Juice’s first release with the new members. I’ve been rooting for Ruru to debut for a long time (such amazing vocals!) and before this whole transfer was announced, I was leaning towards Yanamin being my favorite in Country Girls. I’m excited~!

Funaki Musubu and Kawamura Ayano to ANGERME
– I assumed ANGERME would get a new member, but two! I really feel like I should be paying more attention to the ANGERME members because they seem so animated and interesting. I’d really like to see that kind of fun attitude in some of their videos, but that’s neither here nor there… XD I love Funakki, and I already have a bit of a soft spot for Ayano after she sort of tripped when she was being introduced to the group, so I don’t mind these additions. XD

Ichioka Reina to lead a new group
– Ooh~, a new group! I really want a group that has happy, fun, colorful releases like Golden Era Morning Musume or 4nin S/mileage. PLEASE. Also, I’d really like to see a smaller group for once.

Overall, I don’t mind the additions and transfers. My only gripe is this: the groups are huge. I’d like to see them have groups of three to seven again, maybe eight at the most (not necessarily for MM, though), but here’s what we’ll have after Momo‘s graduation:
Morning Musume – 14 members (until Duu‘s graduation)
ANGERME – 11 members (including Aiai)
Juice=Juice – 7 members
Kobushi Factory – 8 members (until Rio‘s graduation)
Tsubaki Factory – 9 members

Even though I’m not overly keen on huge group numbers, I wouldn’t want any of the current girls held back or graduated. I just kind of wish Up Front had the budget (or cared enough to USE the budget if they do have it) to have more groups that were smaller. And if not that… can we at least get releases more often? Can the releases at least be changed up a bit? (Coupling tracks on every single! Albums!) Oops, I’m getting a bit off topic… (^_^”)

Anyway… I’m looking forward to H!P’s future! (I will forever be excited for Country Girls releases, though.)

H!P Vlogs: Favorite H!P Songs of 2016 – Extra Notes

December 30, 2016

I just wanted to talk about a few big things that happened in Hello! Project this year besides the music releases, namely graduations and graduation announcements.

Graduations This Year: Suzuki Kanon (Morning Musume ’16), Tamura Meimi (ANGERME), Inaba Manaka (Country Girls)

I’ve been a big fan of Zukki since she joined, so I was sad to see her go, but I felt she had been wasted in the group for a long time (I didn’t feel that bringing her out long enough to make fun of her “chubby” character counted as using her, even though she seemed to take it in stride). I was happy to see that she got a fairly prominent part in “Utakata Saturday Night!,” but the other two songs on her graduation single were sorely lacking her presence. I especially hoped that she would have gotten a more prominent line for “The Vision.” Anyway, while I was sad to see her go, she had had a fairly good run in the group, and she had already decided on something else to work toward outside of entertainment, so I wasn’t quite as broken up as I thought I would be.

As for Meimei, I wasn’t a huge fan of her when she first joined the group. She might have actually been my least favorite because she was just SO in-your-face. In the past couple of years, though, I grew to really appreciate her powerful vocals, and she seemed like a fun and funny person, so she slowly climbed up my ANGERME ranking. It’s too bad it took me so long to become a fan of her. orz

Manakan’s graduation hit me the hardest, I think. It was without ceremony, and it was due to her illness, so I felt that she had been cheated out of a very successful future. I’m not saying that I wanted her to continue performing despite her illness; I’m just sad that she didn’t have more time to show off just what an amazing performer she is. Dynamic dancing, adorable singing voice, super-cute look… one of my favorites in H!P overall in the year or so leading up to her graduation. I sincerely hope her health improves, even if she doesn’t continue performing.

Graduation Announcements: °C-ute, Tsugunaga Momoko

The graduation announcements for the rest of the H!P Kids were definitely expected… and yet I was still shocked and dismayed. °C-ute has never been my favorite H!P group, but I’ve always liked them (and Airi is one of my all-time favorite H!P members), so I was sad to hear about them disbanding. It made me feel kind of lonely, because I knew they were the last group that had been around when I first started listening to H!P (not counting MM because all of the members are different from when I started listening). After it was announced, I remember thinking, “Well, at least Momo will still be around…”

… And then her graduation was announced. orz Again, I KNEW it had to be coming soon, but I was rather upset anyway. I’ll probably talk about this more when she actually graduates, but when I first started getting into H!P music and video clips, Momo was my least favorite member in all of H!P. Fast-forward to now where she’s one of my top five favorite members and I have more respect for her than possibly any other current member of H!P. I hope June doesn’t come too quickly… TT_TT

Ayacho… you’re all that’s left… Please don’t leave yet! orz

I have some other general thoughts about the direction H!P is going… but maybe I’ll save that for another vlog/blog. ^_~

Least Played A-Side Songs – A Few Extra Notes

November 15, 2016

Here are some other songs that I don’t listen to too much. (I tried not to include songs that I don’t listen to much right now due to overplaying them at an earlier time. (^_^”))

Morning Musume。 – Ambitious! Yashinteki de Ii jan, Mikaeri Bijin, Ima Koko Kara
– “Ambitious!” is mostly due to my dislike for their outfits in the music video (which is a terrible reason, I know). It’s a great song, but I always think of those ugly yellow-and-black dresses when I hear it. =/
– The other two are due to their lack of an iTunes release (in the US, at least). I have the physical copy of the single that includes “Ima Koko Kara,” but, by the time I got it, I had already gotten used to forgetting about that song. (Again, terrible, I know.)

°C-ute – Sakura Chirari, EVERYDAY Zekkouchou!!, Kanashiki Amefuri, Ai tte Motto Zanshin, Arigatou ~Mugen no Yell~
– I don’t know what it is about “Sakura Chirari.” I know how it goes and I enjoy it well enough, I just don’t actively seek it out to listen to it. The same goes for “EVERYDAY Zekkouchou!!” (which I actually really enjoy).
– The next two on the list were actually just quick-picks from that general grouping of singles; I didn’t have a ton of interest in °C-ute from around “Aitai Aitai Aitai na” to about “The Power” (which is funny, because I realized that I actually love “Kokoro no Sakebi wo Uta ni Shite Mita” after giving it a chance.)
– “Arigatou” just sort of bored me when I first heard it. =/ I’m sure I’ll like it more eventually.

ANGERME (S/mileage) – Tachiagaaru, Gashin Shoutan, Desugita Kui wa Utarenai, Watashi
– “Tachiagaaru” is on there just because I don’t remember listening to it much when it first came out, and I haven’t listened to it too much since. I do know (and like) the melody, though.
– The other three songs suffer from being part of a single that has A-sides that I enjoy more. *shrugs*

Juice=Juice – Wonderful World, Ça va ? Ça va ?
– I like the songs, but this was just sort of a bland release for me. orz

Berryz Koubou – Fighting Pose wa Date ja Nai!, Koi no Jubaku, Golden Chinatown, Otona na no yo!
– “Fighting Pose” is cute, but it’s definitely a ‘once in a while’ kind of song for me.
– I actually really like “Koi no Jubaku,” but I forget about it a lot because it didn’t have a dance shot version. (^_^”)
– The last two songs I listed just didn’t leave a huge impression on me.

So, those are my other rarely-played A-sides. I almost feel like I should listen to all of them right now just to be fair.

That’s all for this one~!

Top 10 Morning Musume。 A-Sides – A Few Extra Notes

August 15, 2016

Top five/ten/whatever lists are nearly impossible for me, because I can find something good about almost every H!P song, so I had to make my top ten list of Morning Musume。‘s A-sides without giving myself a chance to really think about my choices. You can see that list in the above video. Once I finished this and waited for a while (the video was filmed two weeks ago, and the list was initially written two weeks before that), I let myself think about it a little bit. Here are five more A-sides that I realized I really love.

Memory Seishun no Hikari (Great harmonies and pretty in a haunting sort of way)
Help me! (Super-high nostalgia factor and really catchy)
Ima Sugu Tobikomu Yuuki (Absolutely love the lyrics and the strings)
Tsumetai Kaze to Kataomoi (Really loving singing along with this lately)
The Vision (JUST EVERYTHING ♥)

You might notice that, in both my top ten list and the additional five, I have quite a few more recent songs (ones released in the past five years or so). I think it’s because I haven’t had as much time to listen to them waaaaay too many times like I have with older songs. XD Another problem I noticed that I have is that, whenever I do a dance cover for a song, I tend to not listen to that song for quite a while after I finish the dance. That’s probably because I have to listen to the song a TON while I’m learning the dance, so I get a bit tired of it. (^_^”) (This is the case with songs like “Password is 0” and “The Peace!,” both of which I’ve danced to in the last year; “Utakata Saturday Night!” is still okay for now. XD) Who knows? In another year, I might have a completely different list! XD (^_^”) orz

Hello! Project Song Associations – A Few Extra Notes

June 20, 2016

Here are some more random things I associate with H!P songs.

Mano Erina – “10 Carat no Kirameki.”
This association is actually pretty strong, so I don’t know why I forgot to include it in this video. Last year, I made an original choreography for this song. Around that same time, I was watching the first season of Daredevil on Netflix. For whatever reason, this song reminds me of not only that show, but very specifically the character Wilson Fisk. Actually, I strongly associate that show/character with ONE move from the dance. I call it the “Kingpin” move, even though it makes absolutely NO sense. XD

Morning Musume – “The Peace!”
This makes me think of how I first found out about Morning Musume. I had been really into music by Gackt, and he had appeared on a show at the same time as Morning Musume when they were promoting “The Peace!” There was a little skit that had Gackt and Kago Ai on a “date.” I didn’t watch it for the longest time because I didn’t realize it was a joke, and I didn’t care about who Gackt was dating; I just wanted to watch music videos or funny clips. XD Once I finally watched the clip though, I remember thinking, “Who are all of those girls?” and once I searched Kago Ai on Google, I learned about Morning Musume~.

Morning Musume – “Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari”
This was the first Morning Musume music video I ever saw (at least I think it was… it might have been “Kanashimi Twlight” or “Happy Summer Wedding,” but this is the one I always credit as the first one I saw XD).

And here’s a small selection of songs that are super-nostalgic for me because they remind me of when I first started listening to H!P:
Morning Musume – Bon kyu! Bon kyu! BOMB Girl
Morning Musume – Love & Peace! Hero ga Yattekita.
Morning Musume – Densha no Futari
Morning Musume – Ii Koto Aru Kinen no Shunkan
Morning Musume – Suki na Senpai
Morning Musume – Kotatsu no Uta ~jyuken story~
Morning Musume – Dokusenyoku
Morning Musume – Lemon Iro to Milk Tea
Morning Musume – Sukiyaki
Morning Musume – HELP!!
Morning Musume – TOP!
Morning Musume – Suggoi Nakama
Morning Musume – HEY! Mirai
Morning Musume – Shanimuni Paradise
Morning Musume – Genki+
Berryz Koubou – Munasawagi Scarlet
Berryz Koubou – Sprinter!
Berryz Koubou – Passion E-CHA E-CHA
Berryz Koubou – Yume de Do Up
°C-ute – LALALA Shiawase no Uta
Matsuura Aya – Ne~e?
Goto Maki – Uwasa na SEXY GUY

Plus the summer shuffle songs and a handful of songs from Tanpopo, Pucchimoni, and Minimoni. Oh, and also “Sakura Mankai.” (As a side note, I didn’t really get into Berryz or °C-ute until about three or four months into learning about H!P; I stuck mostly with Morning Musume and their old subgroups. (^_^”)>)

Ahhh~, even just writing the names of the songs makes me nostalgic! ^__^

Thanks for watching and reading~!
