Hello! Project Song Associations – A Few Extra Notes

June 20, 2016

Here are some more random things I associate with H!P songs.

Mano Erina – “10 Carat no Kirameki.”
This association is actually pretty strong, so I don’t know why I forgot to include it in this video. Last year, I made an original choreography for this song. Around that same time, I was watching the first season of Daredevil on Netflix. For whatever reason, this song reminds me of not only that show, but very specifically the character Wilson Fisk. Actually, I strongly associate that show/character with ONE move from the dance. I call it the “Kingpin” move, even though it makes absolutely NO sense. 😄

Morning Musume – “The Peace!”
This makes me think of how I first found out about Morning Musume. I had been really into music by Gackt, and he had appeared on a show at the same time as Morning Musume when they were promoting “The Peace!” There was a little skit that had Gackt and Kago Ai on a “date.” I didn’t watch it for the longest time because I didn’t realize it was a joke, and I didn’t care about who Gackt was dating; I just wanted to watch music videos or funny clips. 😄 Once I finally watched the clip though, I remember thinking, “Who are all of those girls?” and once I searched Kago Ai on Google, I learned about Morning Musume~.

Morning Musume – “Joshi Kashimashi Monogatari”
This was the first Morning Musume music video I ever saw (at least I think it was… it might have been “Kanashimi Twlight” or “Happy Summer Wedding,” but this is the one I always credit as the first one I saw XD).

And here’s a small selection of songs that are super-nostalgic for me because they remind me of when I first started listening to H!P:
Morning Musume – Bon kyu! Bon kyu! BOMB Girl
Morning Musume – Love & Peace! Hero ga Yattekita.
Morning Musume – Densha no Futari
Morning Musume – Ii Koto Aru Kinen no Shunkan
Morning Musume – Suki na Senpai
Morning Musume – Kotatsu no Uta ~jyuken story~
Morning Musume – Dokusenyoku
Morning Musume – Lemon Iro to Milk Tea
Morning Musume – Sukiyaki
Morning Musume – HELP!!
Morning Musume – TOP!
Morning Musume – Suggoi Nakama
Morning Musume – HEY! Mirai
Morning Musume – Shanimuni Paradise
Morning Musume – Genki+
Berryz Koubou – Munasawagi Scarlet
Berryz Koubou – Sprinter!
Berryz Koubou – Passion E-CHA E-CHA
Berryz Koubou – Yume de Do Up
°C-ute – LALALA Shiawase no Uta
Matsuura Aya – Ne~e?
Goto Maki – Uwasa na SEXY GUY

Plus the summer shuffle songs and a handful of songs from Tanpopo, Pucchimoni, and Minimoni. Oh, and also “Sakura Mankai.” (As a side note, I didn’t really get into Berryz or °C-ute until about three or four months into learning about H!P; I stuck mostly with Morning Musume and their old subgroups. (^_^”)>)

Ahhh~, even just writing the names of the songs makes me nostalgic! ^__^

Thanks for watching and reading~!

It’s Been Too Long Since My Last Update…

August 31, 2012

…Wow… it’s been too long since my last post. O_O Sorry! m(_ _)m I have some free time before work today, though, so I thought I’d write something for this blog. =D (Part of this post was written months ago, so please keep that in mind. orz) Here’s my take on a few H!P-related things…

1) Morning Musume
I am beyond excited for their next single. I just watched the dance rehearsal, and I already love the song and dance! =D And, of course, I’m excited for 13 Colorful Character as well.

2) Berryz Koubou
– For AnimeNEXT
I loved the video they uploaded to their channel where they introduced themselves and answered a few questions. 😄
– Momochi
Momo’s getting a lot of hate for her “Momochi” act… and I’m not terribly fond of it myself, but I can’t bring myself to fault her. I’m sure management is pushing her to be as outrageous as possible with all of the “Yurushite nyan” and “otomomochi” business and such. I think it’s too bad that people are dismissing her talent because of that act. =(
– I absolutely loved Berryz’ “Loving you too much,” and I’m really irritated that iTunes still doesn’t have the “cha cha SING” single up yet. (>_<*)

3) °C-ute
… Actually, I can’t really think of anything °C-ute-related. “Aitai Aitai Aitai na” wasn’t very memorable to me. In fact, the only part of the song I can remember is “Aitai aitai aitai na.” (^_^”)>

4) Mano Erina
I’ve become a bigger fan of Mano-chan recently (even before her graduation was announced). =D I listened to some of her older songs, and, after really paying attention to them, I realized that I really liked them. Two that I can think of right off the bat are “Lucky Aura” and “Hajimete no Keiken.” I also really love “Hanakotoba,” “Glory days,” and “Tasogare Kousaten.” I’d like to listen to all of her album tracks eventually, but I’ll have to wait until I can buy them, because they seem to be nonexistent on YouTube. o_O

5) S/mileage
I feel like I’m not as big of a fan of S/mileage as I was before… orz It doesn’t have anything to do with Saki and Yuuka leaving (though I think I preferred having fewer members to share the focus). I think the music just hasn’t been grabbing me as much, though I really love “Chance Tourai!” (much more than “Choto Mate Kudasai!,” I’d say). I’m glad that we saw (and heard) more of Rina and Kana in “Suki yo, Junjou Hankouki.” Even though it’s not my favorite S/mileage release, I did like the opening music, and I am able to remember a  few parts of the song. I remember thinking the chorus sounded somewhat out of place with the rest of the song, but I’ve gotten used to it. (^_^”)> I’m glad we’re finally going to see a new album from them next year~.

6) Buono!
So far, I’m loving SHERBET. “FEVER” is probably my favorite album track on there (even though I haven’t had a chance to listen to all of them…), but “Never gonna stop!” is great, too. ^__^ Just by listening to the previews of the other songs, I’m sure I’ll enjoy the other tracks as well.

That’s about all for now~. (^_^”)>

Hello! Project Music 2011 – Part 7: Miscellaneous

December 31, 2011

Favorite Misc. SingleHello! Project Mobekimasu – “Busu ni Naranai Tetsugaku”
Favorite Misc. Coupling Track – Hello! Project Mobekimasu – “Kachoii Uta” (all versions) [“Busu ni Naranai Tetsugaku” c/w]
Favorite Misc. CoverBerryz Koubou x °C-ute – “Amazuppai Haru ni Sakura Saku” [Both Event V covers]

There weren’t too many miscellaneous songs this year, but the few that they had were rather good. There was a period of a few days when I listened to “Kachoii Uta” over and over. 😄 I also like “Makeruna Wasshoi!,” though I’m not too terribly fond of the parts where it sounds like the song is skipping. =/

As far as other miscellaneous, H!P-related stuff, I believe I mentioned in Part 3 that °C-ute has really caught my attention this year. I have a new-found appreciation for them~. =D
Besides, °C-ute, I have a new-found appreciation for all of the former MM members. To be specific, I noticed that I really miss Kamei‘s voice in Morning Musume‘s songs. T_T Eri was initially one of my favorite members~. I also like Goto Maki a lot more than I used to after seeing her perform “LOVE Machine” with Dream Morning Musume. I always thought that she seemed sort of distant in many of the older clips I saw of her, but she was really animated when she was on stage with them at their concert, and she seemed incredibly grateful that they were at her concert. Then, of course, there’s Ai-chan. It’s going to be pretty odd listening to a song that she had lead vocals on (which is a huge number of songs) only to not hear her singing. =/ Also, seeing so many former members congratulate Kago on her marriage and pregnancy made me really happy~~. ^_^
I believe I also mentioned that I’ve become quite a fan of Ayacho this year. She seems like a great leader (before and after the auditions, and even when she, Yuuka, and Kanon went to the amusement park XD) and a genuinely happy girl in general. ^_^

Let’s see… for next year… I want to see a #1 in Hello! Project~! It doesn’t necessarily have to be from Morning Musume, though I think they’re the most likely to get it if anyone does. I’m also really excited to see the H!P drama. I never got a chance to watch all of Hanbun Esper, because I couldn’t find it anywhere. =( Anything else…? Maybe a new temporary unit! A sort of shuffle group, you know? That would be great! =D

Well, that’s about all I have to say~. Thanks for reading~! ^_^

Hello! Project Music 2011 – Part 5: Mano Erina

December 31, 2011

Favorite Single – “Seishun no Serenade,” “My Days for You”

Favorite Coupling Track – “21 Seikiteki Renai Jijou,” “10 Carat no Kirameki”

Favorite Cover – “Seishun no Serenade” [all versions]

Favorite PV – “Seishun no Serenade”

Favorite PV Moments (“Seishun no Serenade”) – Seeing the Morning Musume posters; Mano-chan and the piano at the end

Favorite PV Moments (“My Days for You”) – Mano sitting on the playground equipment (?) and shell structure (?)

Favorite Costume – “Seishun no Serenade” [Dance shot outfit]

Yes~, I’m aware that I listed all four of her songs in my favorites, but, in my defense, that was all she released this year!

I really liked “Seishun no Serenade” from the first listen, but the chanting in the middle of the song kind of ruins it for me. (^_^”)> I love the chorus, though~. The coupling track, “21 Seikiteki Renai Jijou,” has a bit of a ska sound… and spoken lines! =D The chorus is really catchy; I saw a clip of Mano-chan performing this before I had listened to the song, and the chorus caught my attention. (Also, I love the mention of YouTube. XD)

I actually haven’t listened to “My Days for You” very much, but I enjoyed the song all the way through (that is, the wasn’t any chanting to distract me…). It’s rather pretty and somewhat relaxing. It kind of reminds me of some of Morning Musume’s older songs. I hadn’t heard the coupling track, “10 Carat no Kirameki,” at all before today, but I was surprised to find that I liked it from the first listen. It’s very energetic, and something about the verses give off an oldies feeling to me. I think, overall, “My Days for You” may be the better of her two singles this year (I say this tentatively, because I really liked “Seishun no Serenade,” too).

Even if she didn’t release many singles this year, Mano-chan has been very busy. I still feel a bit bad for not listening to her music as much as the other H!P acts, but I just seem to prefer groups to soloists. (^_^”)> I do like her music, though, and I hope she will continue to do singles like the two she had this year. =D

A Few Random Notes…

March 2, 2011

First of all, I probably should have posted it back on Valentine’s Day, but I watched Ai-chan‘s mini-drama, and… boy, was it cheesy. 😄 But it was sort of cute. Plus, I was just happy to see Ai-chan acting. ^_^ I hope she continues to do so after she graduates.

Secondly, I updated my “☆ About Me ☆” page! I noticed that I didn’t have a lot of songs that I liked on it, so I added a bunch. =D I also changed the coloring of the category titles (all Morning Musume in red, Berryz Koubou in blue, etc.). I feel kind of bad that I have so few songs for Mano Erina (and °C-ute, actually o_o), but I am listening to her music more! I’ve become more of a fan in these past few months. ^_^

Speaking of Mano-chan, I used a picture of her for my new header. I didn’t update it last month, so I figured I should do it as early as possible this month. I really liked the wildflower design that I used for the one featuring Fuku-chan, so I went with that again, except in pink, for Erina.

I wanted to have Kikkawa Yuu for this month’s header (as her debut single is coming out at the end of the month) and Manoeri for next month, but I couldn’t find a picture of Yuu that would work, so I guess I’ll wait until next month and hope that some new pictures are out by then. Ah, I saw the preview clip for “Kikkake wa YOU!,” and I thought it was cute. It reminds me of something Ayaya would have had for a PV. =D Although I think I remember liking “Sayonara Namida” more, I’m sure this will be great. ^_^

Mano Erina – Seishun no Serenade PV

February 22, 2011

Whoa, I’ve been gone for a while! Sorry about that, everyone. (*crickets* Yeah, I know; I don’t have a lot of readers. XD) I wanted to start getting those PV reviews I promised written, so here’s one for Mano Erina‘s “Seishun no Serenade.”

Settings – The school setting in subdued tones is very Mano-ish, in my opinion. Also… Yes, I do need to point out and make a big deal out of the “LOVE Machine” and “Renai Revolution 21” posters. =DD

Outfits – There’s a typical Mano-type outfit for the “story” scenes: a fuzzy, white shirt, red plaid skirt, and boots. Then there’s the dance shot outfit which is red and white and so covered in zippers that it looks like Tetsuya Nomura had a hand in designing it (that’s not necessarily a bad thing; I love his art~). It doesn’t really fit with the rest of the video/song, but, for some reason, I rather like it.

Dance – It’s fairly simple-looking, as many of Mano-chan’s dances seem to be, but it works with the song, so there’s that at least.

Acting – The ending with the piano was a nice touch. =) As per usual, though, there didn’t seem to be much acting going on… just the usual “wander around looking semi-curious and/or thoughtful.”

Singing – I liked the effect used on the “hoshii yo” line~. Besides that, I think Erina has improved immensely since her debut, so props to her! She sounded great in this.

Song – The only part that I’m not too keen on is the “Seishun wa JOURNEY etc.” bit. It really seems to throw the whole song out of whack. Though it was kind of neat having the “crowd” singing background vocals in the end. As for the rest of the song… <3. The chorus is especially good, and I find myself singing it every once in a while. ^__^

Overall, this is definitely one of my favorite releases from Mano-chan. The song is right up there with “Onegai Dakara…” and “Haru no Arashi,” and the PV isn’t too bad either. =)

Just Catching Up

February 4, 2011

Wow~, I have a lot of catching up to do. @_@

– First of all, I decided the “~Updates~” weren’t really worth it. orz The only sources I really use are Hello! Online and Tokyograph. Since I’m sure that anyone who reads this probably visits those sites as well, I don’t really see a reason to repost news. I guess any “~Updates~” I have in the future will just be my reactions to news. (^_^”)>

– Secondly, there are three H!P PVs that I need to review. Buono!’s “Zassou no Uta” and “JUICY HE@RT” (I was pleasantly surprised to see a second PV from them =D) and °C-ute’s “Kiss me Aishiteru.” Actually, I really should start reviewing Mano’s PVs, too, so make that four with “Seishun no Serenade.”

– I am all kinds of excited for Morning Musume’s next single, “Maji Desu ka Ska!” =DD I’m guessing it’s going to be more uh… peppy, I guess you could say, than some of their latest singles. … I kind of wish Linlin would have been here for this one, and, for some reason, Koharu as well. o_o However! I am satisfied with having four new members~. ^_^

– Speaking of the Kyuukies, have you seen their little intros on Morning Musume’s YouTube channel? Zukki is perpetually smiley. 😄 And Eripon’s little “Bye bye!” at the end of her video was adorable. Also, I checked out the photo sets for the 9th generation introduction event; Fuku-chan already seems comfortable taking photos, but Riho’s smiles seem a bit… forced. Eripon and Zukki’s smiles are great, but the pouting (?!) faces in their second picture sets were a little awkward. (^_^”)>

That’s all for now~! ^__^

My Favorite H!P Songs – 2010

December 31, 2010

I was going to try to pick my top five 2010 songs for each group, but then I would have had a lot of trouble, so I decided to really limit myself and pick only one song from each group (which makes sense to me somehow…?!). This is completely spur of the moment, so I don’t know… 😄

Morning Musume: Namidacchi
Berryz Koubou: MOON POWER
°C-ute: Campus Life ~Umarete Kita Yokatta~
S/mileage: Odorou yo
Mano Erina: Onegai Dakara…
Buono!: Kataomoi.
Miscellaneous: Lilpri – Idoruru

I’m not quite sure about my choices for Berryz or °C-ute, but the others are for sure. ^_^

Congratulations to S/mileage, who won the Best New Artist Award! I’m so proud~.  T__T  I remember taking a picture for their challenge…

Thanks to everyone who has read this blog over the past twelve months (and the few before that, too)! I’ll see you next year. 😄 Happy New Year~! =D

Hello! Project Music 2010 – Part 3: S/mileage and Mano Erina

December 29, 2010

S/mileage‘s first release this year was the last of their indies singles, “Otona ni Narutte Muzukashii!!!,” which was a fun song with an equally fun, purikura-style PV. It was also the first appearance of the stylized S/mileage logo with the Old English-like font, a crown on the “S,” and a heart-shaped dot for the “i.”
Their debut single, “Yume Miru 15sai,” brings a cooler, slightly more mature sound than their indies singles. However, “Thank You! Crème Brûlée no Yuujou,” returns to their cute-sounding music as they sing about love and sweets.
“○○ Ganbaranakutemo Eenende!!” could be described as a bit crazy, if only for all of the funny sound effects that are heard throughout the song. The A-side was sung in the Osaka dialect, but one of the coupling tracks, “○○ Ganbaranakutemo Iin da yo!!,” was sung in the standard Tokyo dialect. The other coupling track, “Smile Bijin,” starts out with an almost carnival-like sound but turns into a bit more of a 80s-pop sound (I think?!).
The third official single of the year from S/mileage was the ridiculously-long-titled “Onaji Jikyuu de Hataraku Tomodachi no Bijin Mama.” It sounded a bit like “Suki-chan” and has monologues from Maeda Yuuka and Fukuda Kanon during the dance break. The coupling track was a cover of “Chokotto Love,” originally by Petitmoni/Pucchimoni.
Warugaki ①, S/mileage’s first album, includes all four of their indies singles, their first three official singles, and five new tracks: “Odorou yo” is an awesome, island-y tune with “OH YO”‘s reminiscent of “Summer Raggae Rainbow;” “Onna Bakari no Nichiyoubi” itself sounds rather summery and has a lot of overlapping singing; “Shooting Star” is another upbeat song that is also slightly jazzy; “Gakkyuu Inchou” is the first truly slow song I think I’ve heard from S/mileage, and, while it’s not bad, I think their voices work better with the faster, cutesy songs; the final new track, “Shikkari Shite yo! Mou,” brings the speed back a bit… and reminds me vaguely of video game music in parts.

My Favorite S/mileage Tracks for 2010: Otona ni Narutte Muzukashii!!!, Yume Miru 15sai, Onaji Jikyuu de Hataraku Tomodachi no Bijin Mama, Thank You! Crème Brûlée no Yuujou, Odorou yo, Onna Bakari no Nichiyoubi

Honorable Mentions: ○○ Ganbaranakutemo Eenende!!, Shooting Star, Shikkari Shite yo! Mou

Mano Erina‘s first single of the year was “Haru no Arashi,” which had a fittingly springy–if a quiet sort of springy–feel to it. The coupling track, “Hello! Esper! Hello!,” was the theme to H!P’s drama, (of sorts) “Hanbun Esper,” and was decidedly more upbeat than its A-side.
The sole soloist of Hello! Project seemed to have improved her vocals for her second single of the year, “Onegai Dakara…,” which was a bit more danceable than previous singles. It seems the slower song was saved for the coupling track, “Hanakotoba.”
Her third single for 2010, “Genkimono de Ikou!,” is a welcome change from Mano’s mostly slower singles. The PV was a bit odd, but, again, a welcome change; at least something is going on in it. “Uchi e Kaerou” is a pretty sort of song, but it returns to the usual, slow style; it was actually really neat to hear Erina singing in English, though .=D
“More Friends,” her second album, included seven new tracks. I was quite surprised at the number of upbeat songs on it. Unfortunately, the album only made it to number #32 on the Oricon charts.

My Favorite Mano Erina Tracks for 2010: Haru no Arashi, Onegai Dakara…, Genkimono de Ikou!

Honorable Mentions: Uchi e Kaerou,    Gomen, Hanashitakatta dake,    Do Re Mi Fa Doushite?

I really haven’t followed Erina’s music, because I tend to like groups more than soloists and faster songs more than slower songs, so… =/ She is definitely getting better though; I like “Seishun no Serenade,” and she sounds great in it!

All right! Just Buono! and miscellaneous songs left~. The one for Buono! will be really easy to write; not only because they only released one single this year, but because I listened to their album songs a lot. =D

~Update 2~

November 27, 2010

Suzuki Airi is starring in the straight-to-DVD horror drama “Keitai Kanojo” (“Mobile Phone Girl” … I believe). Is it just me, or are a lot of H!P artists in horror shows/movies lately…?

Okai Chisato and Shimizu Saki will have their first photobooks out soon. Additionally, Chisato’s version of Matsuura Aya‘s song “Love Namida Iro” was released on iTunes.

– The third round of exams have ended for 9th generation Morning Musume auditions. It makes me wonder… when will they we start seeing some of the participants?

Mano Erina‘s ninth single and S/mileage‘s fourth single, still both untitled, have been announced for January 26th and February 9th, respectively. Please let S/mileage have a fun, Valentine’s Day song~! ❤

– Hello Store USA had a Black Friday sale with some really amazing deals; unfortunately, yours truly didn’t get a chance to check until it was three hours into the sale… and most of the items were already out of stock. orz The ones that really blew me away were the large microfiber towels for $8.99! =O

– You may have noticed that the poll box is missing. I’ve decided not to do polls every week (because I’ve been failing at updating it regularly anyway XD). I’ve only been getting one or two votes lately anyway… (^_^”)> I will make new ones when I think of a decent question, though.
