ANGERME’s 21st Single Critique

April 25, 2016

Tsugitsugi Zokuzoku
AAARRGGHHHH THIS SONG IS SO GREAT!!! I loved it after hearing the first few seconds of the live performance shown on Hello! Station~. As for the MV, the setting is pretty simple, but it fits the song well. I like the house of mirrors sort of shots for the solo parts and the crazy fish-eye lens when they’re rapping. =D Speaking of which, I love how enthusiastic Kananan was during her rapping in the second verse; I was a little afraid she was going to slide right into the camera. XD There are those slowed down shots that H!P has loved so much lately (though I don’t mind, because they do look cool). XD I don’t mind the outfits for this one; I like the tops well enough, but I don’t know what possessed them to give Take-chan and Maho those goofy-looking pants. o_O Doesn’t matter; the song is awesome enough to eclipse the weird pants. XD I reeeeaaally would like a dance shot version, but they don’t do those anymore. orz I’d also like to point out that Kamiko does well in this; I thought it was kind of cute when she would look away from the camera during parts of the dance (probably to make sure she didn’t run into anyone XD). This is definitely my favorite song on this single.
Line that gets stuck in my head: Tsugi tsugi zoku zoku (the repeated background lines that are heard at the beginning and end)

Itoshima Distance
At first, I had a hard time concentrating on the song because of their distracting outfits. XD I eventually got over it; some of the outfits aren’t actually too terrible. I also liked that they were divided up evenly into red, yellow, and blue. Maho’s hat, though… what in the world… XD I was a bit disappointed by most of the dance; it seemed kind of lackluster and, at times, all over the place. =/ The settings are a simple sort of pretty, and the extra shots (of Itoshima, I’m assuming) are a nice addition. The song actually grew on me quite a bit! =)
Line that gets stuck in my head: Chotto matte, nante iita no? Kikitakunai

Koi Nara Tokku ni Hajimatteru
First and foremost, I’m so happy that Meimei got such a huge focus in this song since it’s her graduation single and all. ♥ The solo shots with the words appearing on the sides are neat (and they remind me of “Uchouten LOVE” a bit), and the three-person shots in front of the colored backgrounds were nice, too. The shots of them in the red and black outfits seemed kind of random, but I didn’t hate them. (^_^”) The settings were pretty in this one, too. Once again, I’m bemoaning the fact that they don’t have dance shot version anymore. orz Is it just me, or does Rina seem a little more comfortable than usual in this MV? Maybe it’s just me. (^_^”) The only parts of the song that I still haven’t quite gotten used to are the fast solo lines in the chorus; it just seemed like there were too many syllables, so they sounded a bit off to me. =/ Somehow, that last shot of Meimei and Ayacho made me sad; the leader saying goodbye to the graduating member… TT_TT
Line that gets stuck in my head: Naze kimi wa watashi ni yasashii no (though, honestly, I don’t know the lyrics of this one well enough to remember most of the lines even if I can remember the tune (^_^”))

Let’s see, is there anyone I didn’t mention? I love Rikako‘s energy when she dances. =D I’ve also become quite a fan of Murotan; something about her reminds me of Ayappe (Ishiguro Aya from Morning Musume。, for those who don’t know)~. =D Overall, I think this is a great single for Meimei to graduate with. I can’t wait to buy it in a couple of days~! ♥

°C-ute’s 29th Single Critique

April 25, 2016

Naze Hito wa Arasoun Darou?
The first thing I noticed when they previewed this MV on Hello! Station was the jump in production value. What’s this? A big, fancy set? Backup singers? A band?! =D I really like the song, too. It’s nice to see this change of pace from °C-ute once in a while~. The whole MV has a very classy feel. My only gripe is seeing the tired “putting on makeup” scenes again. orz Otherwise, this was lovely!
Line that gets stuck in my head: Hana wa saku no ni naze hito wa kanashiin darou?

Summer Wind
… Can’t say I’m a huge fan of their outfits. (^_^”) Other than that, this is really rather pretty. I really like the overlaid shots and the slowed down parts (though, seriously, they’re using that effect in almost every single H!P video now, it seems XD). It also makes me happy to see outdoor shots in H!P videos every once in a while~. There’s a beautiful, lonely sort of feeling to the music in the beginning and during the verses. Also, Airi‘s vocalizing near the end… ♥
Line that gets stuck in my head: Mabushisugiru along the coast

Jinsei wa STEP!
Here it is! Every multi-A-side single has THE song, and, in my opinion, this is that song for this single~. What’s not to like? Awesome set, fun-looking dance, cool-looking extra scenes (adlfj;aiefjak TAP DANCING), and an amazingly-catchy song! … The outfits are okay. XD Besides the tap dancer scenes, I also really like the fact that they had some of the other scenes in black and white. These are the kinds of songs that make me desperately wish for dance shot versions again. orz This is definitely my favorite song from this single~!
Line that gets stuck in my head: Mawaru mawaru yo jinsei

Okay, °C-ute has my attention again. I maybe kinda sorta ignored their last single and only got a couple songs from their last album… but this single was just awesome! =D (Also, just on a random note, though they all look lovely, I would like to point out how gorgeous Maimi looks in these videos~. So pretty!) Well done, °C-ute; you’ve still got it!

Country Girls 3rd Single Critique

March 6, 2016

Boogie Woogie LOVE
I really love the 50s style used for the outfits and music video~! The diner setting with all of the signs on the wall is so great! MVs always hold my interest more when they have something fun in the background instead of just an empty room (… maybe I should do something about my own YouTube videos if that’s the case… XD). I even liked the “other” shots with the lollipops and cars even though they’re pretty much the type of scenes I don’t usually care for (standing/sitting somewhere and just staring off into space thoughtfully). Once again, thank you, interesting set! I’m not 100% sure how I feel about the dance. I know I really like the leg swing during the beginning of the chorus, and there are a few other moves that look pretty good, but the camera moves around so much. O_O My initial though was, “Wow, they’re kind of all over the place,” but I know there’s some rhyme and reason to it… it would just be easier to confirm if I could see it straight on without any camera changes. orz Overall, I like this video~.
Line that gets stuck in my head: Hold me tight / Dakishimete yo, Fall in love

Koi wa Magnet
This one has a bit of an 80s sound, which gives this single a nice variation. While I didn’t find the background for this one as interesting as “Boogie Woogie LOVE,” it was still pretty neat with the swirling, striped design in the huge windows. I rather liked the “other” shots for this, even though, once again, they’re just sort of staring off into space. The individual settings are pretty though~. I love Manaka and her amazing dancing, but her powerful dance break in this seemed a bit jarring after the relaxed style of the rest of the dance. =/ Overall, I really like this video, too~.
Line that gets stuck in my head: Shall we dance?

Ranrarun ~Anata ni Muchuu~
AAAAHHHH! FINALLY! This this this THIS is what I’ve wanted from H!P for so long! This reminds me of older H!P music videos… something like a combination of “I WISH” and a Tanpopo video after Kago and Rika joined with a little “Mr. Moonlight ~Ai no Big Band” thrown in for good measure. I love this so much~! It has a fun background, story scenes, cuteness (their dresses and the heart lights in their eyes~!), silliness (most of the video XD), a nice dance (from what I could see of it), and the song is unbelievably catchy~!! =D I know it’s a cover song, but that doesn’t matter in the least; it got stuck in my head right away (not even an exaggeration). This is definitely my favorite video, and it has to be my favorite track from this amazing single!
Line that gets stuck in my head: Ranrarun, anata ni muchuu na no (Let’s be honest; the entire song has gotten stuck in my head multiple times already. XD)

Seriously, Country Girls is absolutely killing it (in a good way)! I’ve loved every single one of their releases since their debut (Country Girls’ debut, not Country Musume‘s)~. I was a little skeptical about them adding Nanami and Funakki because, even though I knew both girls were talented, I thought the lineup was perfect as it was. Lucky for me (and everyone!), 2nd gen. only helps add to the group’s charm. Hooray~!! Momo is doing such an amazing job as their playing manager (Happy Birthday, Momo~!) ♥ Argh, I can’t get over how much I love this single. If you’re at all able, I would definitely recommend buying this; I know I will~!

Morning Musume – Renai Hunter PV

May 4, 2012

Settings – The dance shot takes place in a well-lit, white room, which really adds to the futuristic/robotic feeling of the song. The group close-ups where the girls are posing for the camera(s) seem to take place in the same room, but with lower lighting. The individual close-ups are also very brightly lit and include the shiny, silver, sequined curtains that remind me of other H!P PVs, such as S/mileage‘s “Yume Miru 15sai” and Berryz Koubou‘s “Maji Bomber!!” (though that was shiny fabric). Again, it fits with the futuristic feel of the song… but I’m a bit tired of seeing it. orz

Outfits – More shiny silver! The outfits also have colored stripes sprinkled with white (unless those are silver, too) stars. The colors follow the following pattern: Gaki-san –> yellow; Sayu, Reina, and Mittsi –> black; 9th gen. –> red; and 10th gen. –> blue. I know others have already pointed this out, but I figured I might as well mention it, because I noticed it right away when I first saw the PV. The kyuukies color is red, which happens to be Riho‘s color, and Riho is the most prominent 9ki member in this song; blue, Daishi‘s color, is for the juukies, and she is also the main 10ki member in this song. There has also been mention of Gaki-san getting Ai-chan‘s color for her outfit, though I have to wonder if they were just going for primary colors and it happened to turn out well. (^_^”)> Anyway, it was also nice to see everyone’s hair down for a change. ^_^ I also rather like the black boots and gloves used for the outfits; I think it completes the look.

Dance – Oh boy… Well, actually, I really like most of the dance. =) It seems quite different from a lot of Morning Musume‘s usual dances. I absolutely love the dance break, but I was a bit disappointed by how little most of the members get to do during the verses; it was just, *pose* *move a bit* *change pose* *move a bit more* =/ The chorus is really simplistic as well, but it’s really high-energy and a lot of fun to dance to, as with the rest of the dance. The only move that I wasn’t too keen on was, of course, the signature move: knees bent out to either side, arms straight up, and hands pointed to the right as they look to the right. (^_^”)> It was made even more awkward when they tiptoed in place and wiggled their fingers. It’s still a bit weird to me, but, after doing the dance myself, I got a little more used to it. XD

PV Misc. – There were two different types of miscellaneous scenes for this PV: the group close-ups and the magazine covers. In the group shots, the girls are all posing in a fairly low-lit room as fans blows their hair around and (what seem to be) camera flashes temporarily brighten the shots. In the magazine shots, we see the girls posing with lollipops while they suddenly appear on the covers of magazines that have information about each girl and the single. I like that they kept the girls moving instead of taking a still shot for the covers. =D I also liked how the text flies in~. Bonus shot: Gaki-san, with a tattoo that says, “モーニング娘。” on her cheek, mouths “Morning Musume daisuki,” at the end of the PV. That ending absolutely killed me. TT_TT I’m going to miss Gaki-san!

Song – It’s too bad that we didn’t get to hear any solo lines from most of the members, but I was really happy with how many lines Gaki-san got. They probably realized that fans would freak out if she didn’t get the focus for her graduation single. Also, I was really impressed with Riho’s singing in this one. ^__^ The song itself if really cool and catchy; I didn’t mind the electronic feel of it. I also didn’t mind Sayu’s auto-tuned line; I thought it fit with the song~.

Overall, I think this is a really great graduation single for Gaki-san. I wish there had been a little more color, but I suppose, for this kind of song, the silver, black, and white combination fits best. I’m a bit unnerved by the fact that I didn’t really notice Mittsi’s absence (though I’m thinking that has to do with the fact that I watched the dance shot version more). o_o [Note: I wrote this review before her graduation announcement. Now I feel worse. orz]

I guess that’s all I have to say for this one~.

You know, I’ve been thinking… maybe I should just do a couple of paragraphs with my reactions to the single instead of these extensive reviews. Others do a much better job of covering everything, so I think it’s kind of unnecessary for me to do so as well. (^_^”)> I think I’ll try something different with future reviews.

“Chotto Ikashita PURE BLOG” 2nd Anniversary and a Few Mini PV Reviews

September 26, 2011

Today is the two-year anniversary of “Chotto Ikashita PURE BLOG”! =D Hooray~~~… even though I don’t post very much on here. orz

The problem is, I don’t especially want to post news, because it’s always posted elsewhere before I hear about it. (^_^”)> I usually post PV reviews, but my arms have been in bad condition for the past few weeks because of too much computer use, so I can only type slowly and for a short amount of time. orz So, I thought I’d do a few mini-reviews to catch up.

Morning Musume – Kono Chikyuu no Heiwa wo Honki de Negatterun da yo!
– This song has grown on me~. I was a bit indifferent to it when I first heard it, but I like it more now. ^_^ I kind of thought the PV would have an Egyptian look when I first saw the outfits, but I was wrong. Unfortunately, I thought the “story” scenes were a bit on the boring side (except for Ai-chan catching the star and then throwing it again; I adored that scene… AUGH I’m going to miss her T_T). The dance was slightly disappointing to me, but, like the song, it’s growing on me.

Morning Musume – Kare to Issho ni Omise ga Shitai!
– I loved this song from the first listen! ♥ Sayu does so well as the lead for this song, and Reina is strong as usual. Will they be the new focus, I wonder? Or will they get more Riho than Sayu in future releases? Or Gaki-san? Anyway, I love the song, and the PV is my favorite MM PV in goodness knows how long! I love the bright colors, the crazy outfits, and the cheesy-but-amazing effects. I loved the silly faces. XD My only gripe is the lack of Fuku-chan; I didn’t see too much of her. =/ Also, I wish there was a dance for this! T_T

Berryz Koubou – Aa, Yo ga Akeru
– I was just… underwhelmed by this release. =( I can only remember a few parts of the song (though I remember not caring for Miyabi‘s “Hoo hoo hoo”‘s during the instrumental break (-_-”)), and what I did remember, I wasn’t terribly impressed with. The girls looked fine, but I didn’t really like their outfits. In my opinion, the dance was lacking something as well. The only redeeming features were the pretty settings and the fact that the girls sounded good, even if I wasn’t really fond of the song. =\ Maybe I’ll like it more if I listen to it more…

°C-ute – Seikaiichi HAPPY na Onna no Ko
– First of all, the song is cute and fun, but it still took me some time to remember much of it. (^_^”)> I absolutely LOVED the PV, though! Bright colors, little rooms that match their outfits, the “domino” scenes, the lying around randomly… I just loved the whole thing! The fact that the dance shot version isn’t at a fixed angle is a bit irritating, but what can you do.

S/mileage – Tachiagaaru
– I rather like the chorus (though I can’t seem to remember it at the moment… or any of the rest of the song for that matter orz). Unfortunately, the PV just didn’t do anything for me. There just didn’t seem to be anything of interest going on. =/ Seeing only three full members in S/mileage makes me a bit sad, but so does seeing Fuyuka; she’s adorable, and I hope she can recover fully and maybe be part of the group again some day.

I suppose that’s about all I have to say for these. I wish I could have written more. orz

I know I don’t get very many views on this blog, but thank you to those who do check it out every once in a while. I appreciate the time you take to read it! ^_^

S/mileage – Uchouten LOVE PV

August 12, 2011

Settings – So, for settings, we have a stage with a giant “LOVE” sign in the back and a huge disco ball made out of silver heart balloons, a purikura type area for some of the “other” shots, and a super-empty classroom with four desks and chairs and a clock (and an intercom, I think?). I’m not sure where to put this comment, so I’ll put it here: I love the heart lights in the girls’ eyes during their close ups! ❤

Outfits – There are two outfits for each girl in this PV: the school uniforms (which are used for the “other” scenes and some of the purikura scenes) and the flashy, brightly-colored outfits (which are used for the dance shot, the close ups, and some of the purikura scenes). I like both outfits, though I kind of wish that the green of Ayacho‘s top was a bit brighter so that it contrasted with Yuuka‘s yellow top more.

Dance – This dance looks like so much fun, and it’s as much fun to do as it is to watch. =D I think I liked it even more after watching each of the girls explain one small section of the dance in a video. There are quite a few parapara elements to the dance, and I really like the way some of the moves sort of “flow” from one member to the next. Kanon seemed to be a little mixed up in places… (^_^”)>

Acting – I love the girls’ antics in front of the mic. XD Besides that, the purikura scenes were also great (ahaha, their faces for the “crying” picture XD), and the school scenes were awesome. I think it’s hilarious how obvious it is that the pencil is taped/stuck to Saki‘s lip. XD Ayacho, always the responsible leader, is the only one studying, while Yuuka sings in her sleep, and Kanon colors (or maybe she’s writing notes?). And then there were the scenes with the four of them lined up neatly in their uniforms; I couldn’t help but laugh at how seriously they said, “WAHOO!” XDD The final “other” scenes were for Yuuka’s and Ayacho’s solo lines on the stage.

Singing – I love how even S/mileage‘s line distribution is. ❤ I don’t know how many times I’ve said this, but Ayacho has improved so much! She still has the super-cutesy voice (as does Yuuka), but she’s come a long way since Shugo Chara Egg! Hooray for Yuuka’s “NAI!” XD Much like the “one-by-one”-ness of some of the dance moves, I love the lines where each member sings one syllable of a line (like “ma-i-ni-chi”).

Song – I re~ally love this song. There are very few songs that I adore from the first listen, and this is one of them. Ever since the first preview was out, I was eagerly awaiting the full version. When that came out, it definitely did not disappoint.

The PV has a rather “cheap” feeling to it, but I thought I read/heard somewhere that that was what they were going for? It was something along the lines of “being cheap while still being cute,” if I’m remembering correctly. Well, it was definitely cute. ^_^ My only gripe is the color palette; there seemed to be an awful lot of purple and pink. It’s not that I don’t like those colors, but I would have preferred to have the girls in really bright, contrasting outfits against the backdrop (at least for the dance shot outfits). Saki’s shirt more or less matches the “LOVE” sign, and Ayacho’s and Yuuka’s tops look a bit sickly-colored. But that’s a very minor thing that I can definitely overlook, because I love this song and PV so much. I’m fairly certain that this is my favorite S/mileage song of the 2011~. =D 4nin S/mileage certainly ended on a high note; now, what will the new member bring to the table?

~ Surimu-chan

Morning Musume – Only you PV

June 27, 2011

Settings – The entire thing was in one small area, I guess, but it wasn’t completely boring because of the awesome lighting changes from white to red to purple. =D The candelabras for the “other” parts really created a pretty scene along with the floating crystals/gems; I know a lot of people thought the crystals looked horrible and fake, but I rather liked the effect. Sure, it might have been a bit of a screensaver effect, but that’s not so bad.

Outfits – I quite like the outfits for this PV; well, at least the older members’ outfits. Their long-sleeved, white-and-silver dresses were quite pretty in my opinion. The kyuukies’ white-and-silver shorts and shortened tops were fine, too. I wasn’t sure how I felt about the huge hair accessories (those giant gems look pretty fake-y), but they actually work rather well with the rest of the outfit, as do the tall, lace-up boots (though I’m not a big fan of them being open-toed o_O). Also, hooray for Gaki-san‘s hair going back to normal (more or less), but boo for whatever they tried to do to Mittsi‘s. (-_-”)

Dance – The dancing during the verses is really repetitive and a bit odd, and the dancing during the chorus is a bit… lacking, I guess. However, I really love the fast dancing just after the chorus~. =D The dance break is all right, but, for me, it leans a bit toward the boring side. (^_^”)>

Acting – It seems this is another PV where the only “acting” is the old “look at the camera thoughtfully/wistfully/etc.” Meh.

Singing – Lovely singing all around, though I wish I could have heard Fuku-chan, Eripon, and Zukki more. Though Riho isn’t my favorite of the new members, I still think she did well with her lines. As far as the debate as to whether or not Gaki-san’s autotuned lines were good or not… of course they were good! I thought the autotune fit with the song, but if you don’t like it, you can listen to the live versions. She still rocks her lines. ^__^ Oh, Sayu… always the “Ah~” lines. XD

Song – The verses are a bit repetitive, but I love the chorus! Also, Gaki-san’s lines (and the similar sounding parts that Ai-chan and Reina have) are also really great~. A~nd I really liked Ai-chan’s and Reina’s echoing lines. =D

Overall, I enjoyed this PV. I don’t know if I enjoyed it as much as the “Maji Desu ka Ska!” PV, but, then again, I always prefer the fun PVs that have them doing something more than “dance shot/close up/stare at the camera,” so… (^_^”)>

~ Surimu-chan

Berryz Koubou – Ai no Dangan PV

June 9, 2011

(-_-”)>

Settings – I thought the multiple screens were kind of neat. (^_^”) I liked when they walked off one screen only to walk out from behind said screen. =D I know a lot of people thought it looked cheap, but I thought it was kind of cool. When I saw Risako dancing in front of her closeup, I was hoping that everyone else would do the same, but they mostly had everyone dance in front of the dance shot version (or they danced in front of the other closeups). I liked it when the screens were in each member’s color, too. =)

Outfits – The outfits for this remind me of a red-and-black “Seishun Bus Guide” type thing sans the hats, so… nope. I don’t like them. (-_-”) While some of the girls may look good in it, I just don’t like the style. I think Yurina‘s would have looked better if she had those same black pockets (?) that some of the others had. =/

Dance – Ugh. I really dislike this dance. It just looks really awkward. I know that all of the Berryz Koubou members are in their late teens, but I hope they’re not going to take the “sexy” route for all of their future singles. (I admit to being a prude. XD) Also, have you seen the dance shot version?! It can hardly be called that with all of the closeups and angle changes it has. (>_<”)

Acting – I liked the scenes where the love/heart “bullets” were being shot. =D (Surprisingly, Momo and Miya were the only two to not “shoot.”) As I’m not much of a car/motorcycle/etc. enthusiast, I didn’t really care about those parts of the PV so much. Chinami looked pretty bored in some parts (though I suppose the same could be said for everyone at one point or another). XD

Singing – Hooray! As with their last few singles, the line distribution is much more even. =D I was happy to hear more from Captain and Maasa.

Song – I love the song! It may not seem like it from the rest of this review… but I really do like the song~! I have a feeling that I’ll be listening to it a lot (… I may have already listened to it more than “Shining Power.” (^_^”)>)

Overall, I’m not a big fan of the PV (I think it was the dance that spoiled it for me =/), but I love the song~. And that’s the main thing, right? I don’t have to watch the PV every time I listen to the song~. (Sorry if I rambled a bit in this review; it’s almost 4 AM. XD)

°C-ute – Momoiro Sparkling PV

May 25, 2011

First of all, this doesn’t really fit it any category, but I have to say… I don’t really like the title card. =\ Secondly, I’ll warn you now… you’ll see the word “summery” in this review a lot. (^_^”)>

Settings – This PV has (more or less) two settings: the area for the dance shot with the blue-and-white checkered floor with white, stacked blocks/boxes in the background and the bright pink doors. There was also the peach-colored, cloudy background used in the close ups. I think all of the settings (as well as the near-constant presence of pink bubbles) help to keep the summery feeling of the PV. =D

Outfits – It seems they took the “Aitai Lonely Christmas” route instead of the “Kiss me Aishiteru” one, because they girls all have their own look instead of everyone getting a matching outfit. They’re all in bright, happy colors that definitely fit with the sound of the song. =D The only thing that I can’t stand is Nakky‘s shorts with the pockets sticking out (just because I think it looks ridiculous in general). I’m reminded of Buono!‘s “Take it easy!” with these outfits. My favorites are Maimi‘s and Airi‘s, though I also like Maimai’s top, and I really like Chisato‘s hair like that. ^_^

Dance – Even the dance seems fun and summery~. It looks simpler than other °C-ute dances, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I saw a few familiar moves, but only a couple of them were obvious (and recent) enough to bug me. (^_^”)> I like the rolling of the index fingers instead of the usual arm rolling.

Acting – There wasn’t much acting going on but there were a few “other” scenes in the PV: the pink door entrances; the squirt guns squirting the camera; the jumping scenes (which kind of reminded me of Arashi’s one video… “Kotoba Yori Taisetsu Na Mono” I think); the plastic balls being dropped on them; and the “beach” scene, complete with a small game with a beach ball. I think having such a variety of extra scenes made this PV a lot more interesting than other recent releases. ^__^ Along with the jumping scenes, Airi getting a ball stuck under her heel was one of the PVs highlights, I’d say. XD

Singing – Nakky’s and Maimai’s voices still aren’t really my favorites, but this song doesn’t seem to require very powerful vocals, so they fit in nicely. =)

Song – The song has an adorably summery sound. It seems more mellow than energetic, and something about it reminds me of a Pucchimoni song (particularly the line directly preceding the chorus for some reason).

Overall… yes, I do believe “summery” is the best word for this PV. XD All of the elements that make up the video fit the theme perfectly~. I think it’s great! =D (On a random note, something about the PV gave me a bit of a Barbie vibe… perhaps the super-bright pink doors? XD)

S/mileage – Koi ni Booing Buu! PV

May 8, 2011

I’ve finally gotten around to writing a review for “Koi ni Booing Buu!” (or is it “Boo” … or “Bu”? I’ve seen it romanized a ton of different ways. I’m going to stick with “Buu.”) I wanted to wait a while before I wrote a review for this PV, because, as is often the case for me, my first impression wasn’t very accurate (I thought it was kind a cutesy sort of bland). Now that I’ve listened to it more and watched the PV multiple times (well, a few times; I think I’ve watched the dance shot version more (^_^”)>), I can say that I love it. On with the review!

Settings – I love the cartoon-yness of the main set! That’s really the only way I can think to describe it. And the colors are so very S/mileage (literally… aren’t those the members’ colors?)~. The setting for the black version is an appropriately black background with a grey/green-looking couch.

Outfits – The main outfits are odd, fluffy-skirted (of course), pink things dotted with pompoms and the cartoon pig from the title card, as well as the usual S/mileage crest. They’re also wearing criminally-high heels in a light purple-and-pink color (also decorated with pompoms) and pink (or it might be light purple) headbands/tiny hats (again… with pompoms). The other accessories with this outfit are, of course, the pig-ears heaband and pig nose. (^_^”)> The dresses from the black version (though they don’t really fit with the song… at all) are… black (except Saki‘s has some white/grey on it). Besides this, the girls are wearing dark red shoes and have their hair and makeup done up nicely.

Dance – Aaahh, it’s adorable! It’s also very S/mileage-y in that it’s fairly simple (it probably has to be with those heels they’re wearing o_o). My favorite parts are the moves just before the chorus when it looks like two of the members are causing the other two to move (around 1:10 and 2:36 in the Dance Shot Vers.). Maybe it’s just for this one, but Ayacho seems like a fairly strong/energetic dancer (except for the little mistake she made in here XD).

Acting – The girls’ interacting with the props (and pig accessories XD) and each other made the video for me. I still can’t understand the point of the black version; it seems so out of place. (Maybe it has something to do with the lyrics…?). Most of the video was just adorable, (like when they were “eating” the giant cake and cherry) though I kind of dislike the animated pig. (-_-”)

Singing – Ayacho has improved a lot~! Granted, she’s still got a ways to go to catch up with Kanon and Saki, but she has definitely made progress. =D The “baka” lines (especially Yuuka‘s “Mou, baka!”) were among my favorite parts.

Song – I love the repeated syllables at the end of the chorus lines! This seems like it would be a really fun song to hear live. It has their typical cutesy sound (except for Tsunku’s “Buu”-ing in the background XD), which I know some people don’t like, but I can stand it from S/mileage. ^_^

Overall, I definitely like “Koi ni Booing Buu!” better than “Shortcut.” The song and the PV. Yep. ^_^
